I read dailykos.com, a liberal blog site, often. Recently, there has been a spate of postings there that are anti H-1B and anti high tech immigration. One example, from today, is: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/3/28/82450/4208. I have been posting comments as cacophonix.
dailykos.com is the most powerful and most popular liberal blog. Opinion that gets set there is influential with Democratic legislators. There is significant support there for high-tech immigration, but I think the tide could easily turn.
I need help from fellow IVers in refuting such ridiculous diaries as the one above. Please register and follow developments there, and please post responses when these issues come up.
I can't stress this enough: dailykos has a strict trolling/abuse policy. If you lose your cool and start abusing, you will get banned in a flash. So please be courteous.
You have indeed done an amazing job in totally making that diary hopeless.

The meeting was very well organized. Q&A session with Attorney Prashanti Reddy was very useful. Here are my suggestions:
a) We can have these conferences every two months or whenever core thinks so.
b) I think we should stick to immigration.
c) Earlier 'Invite a friend/Add a member' campaigns were very successful as compared to flyer/poster campaign.
Thanks for coming with your wife - this is the third meet and you both came for all the meets.
Excellent input - we must do more of these. We are expanding now and getting support so I think we are in a position to do more stuff.
Flyers and posters also play a crucial role as a first step to a lot of people.

Thanks. Where did you get the info on what docs to carry? Was it at the Texas DPS website?
I applied for DL for me and for my wife too..
the documents are same what were mentioned above...
If you are applying for a transfer from other state ...
Make sure that
1)you have your vehicle registered in TX ,
2) carry 2 proof of address .
3) carry proof of insurance ( they ask for this :confused:)
4) and carry your employment letter ....some times they insist on this .

From what I can infer from the replies so far:
1. For full time/permanent positions, EAD opens the doors to companies that do not usually sponsor visas. From the salary perspective, a boost might not be possible
2. For contract positions, eliminating the desi layer in between might help increase the rate.
In (2), how do you all intend to do that? A lot of larger clients I've seen have the preferred vendor policy and if the desi company is the preferred vendor, how do you eliminate them?

Aah_GC: Lawyer might not have received it from USCIS otherwise irrational would not be writing it here :) Many who filed during July 07 fiasco have not received the 485 receipt notices (lost in mail) from USCIS.

I guess, what Mr/Ms Desertfox has mentioned makes clear sense. It is better to have the I-94 with the valid parole stamp, when applying for FAFSA. One can go outside/re-enter and obtain the parolee or Paroled in to US stamp. Please consult with your attorney also, since the full details of your case is known to the attorney. Thanks.

I hope they don't charge money for pre-adjucation, else this would be another scheme for money making!
From the link, it appears that the talk here is about filing I-485 even when priority date is not current. That's different from before. Having said that, we'll see when it happens and if anything happens.

So it has gone in the first few months of the Obama Administration. At the new President's urging and by his example, the entire Federal Government has bounded into the world of social-networking. Twenty-five agencies now have YouTube channels. The Library of Congress has begun posting thousands of free historical photos on Flickr. In the past week alone, about 30 agencies, including the White House, have joined Facebook.
"The whole pondering process � Should we do it? Should we not do it? � has been truncated because the White House is doing it," says Theresa Nasif, director of the Federal Citizen Information Center, which helps coordinate Web outreach. "It's very exciting to be in government."
The federal technology transformation remains very much a work in progress, with several agencies just beginning to grapple with allowing employees to even access social-networking sites. The White House communications team, for instance, is not able to access the government's Facebook postings and Twitter feeds, let alone those of reporters from the press corps, because of filters installed at the White House. (The White House New Media team, which posts on the networks from four old speech-writing rooms in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, has been able to win an exemption from this policy.)
Still, the Administration has already made great strides in opening up to technological innovation. On Jan. 21, his first full day in office, Obama signed an Executive Order calling for all departments and agencies to "establish a system of transparency, public participation and collaboration." At the same time, White House lawyers, working with other federal agencies, sought to create new "terms of use" agreements with private companies that would allow government to sign up for social networks like MySpace, YouTube and Facebook as if they were just another person. What was once the sole domain of adventuresome government agencies and officials soon became standard policy.
At present, government lawyers have drafted agreements with 10 private social-networking companies. (The tailored agreements take into account certain federal privacy statutes and require that disputes be settled in federal court, not state courts.) Six other private-sector products, including iTunes, are being considered for further expansion, potentially clearing the way for easy iPod downloads of Obama Administration messages.
At some agencies, like the White House, other considerations had to be taken into account. To comply with the Presidential Records Act, every Twitter and Facebook posting, for instance, generates an e-mail record that can be stored with other records. Citizen responses to the White House postings are also sampled and archived for the sake of history. On Monday, to coincide with the announcement of a crackdown on corporate overseas tax havens, the White House Twitter feed asked followers � who now number more than 40,000 � for their reaction. Jason Furman, deputy director of the White House National Economic Council, responded to three of the questions in a follow-up posting, which was linked to the White House blog. The CDC, which began experimenting with social media three years ago, has created a raft of YouTube videos, podcasts, webpage widgets and Twitter-size feeds to inform the public about the latest news on the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu. Between April 22 and May 4, the CDC received 1.2 million views of flu-related material on YouTube and 46.6 million Web-page views, and attracted 99,000 followers on its Twitter feed "CDCemergency," which provides breaking updates on health issues. Janice Nall of the CDC's Center for Health Marketing says the agency is interested in employing any social media that people use. As for Twitter, she added, "It just happens to be sexy right now."
Several agencies have been struggling to free themselves of bureaucratic restraints, like filtering software that bars employees from accessing social networks from work computers. In recent months, both the Department of Energy and the Department of Housing and Urban Development have opened up employee access to social-networking tools. The Defense Department has also been going online, with a new Air Force Twitter page and a Facebook page for General Ray Odierno, the U.S. commander of multinational forces in Iraq.
Nonetheless, the entire project of making the government social-network-friendly remains in its infancy. As it stands, the government controls about 24,000 websites but is only beginning to utilize the social-networking sites on which citizens are spending an increasing amount of their time. Yet the historic bureaucratic resistance to adapting to new media has clearly begun to fade, says Bev Godwin, director of Online Resources and Interagency Development at the White House. 1. currently in 8th yr extn on orig H1( h1 extn is there until mar 2010); 140 approved in march 2007
2. filed 485 in june 07, got AP/ead in oct 07 ( eb3, apr 2003)
3. became eligible for ac21 in jan 2008
4. so far not yet used AP or ead
the qn is -->
1. if i use ac21 , can i have the new company transfer my H1? (even tho im past the 6 yr original limit)
2. first join the new company using EAD, then ask them to apply for H1 transfer. will this work?
3. if the new company doesnt sponsor my H1, then does that mean i will never be able to marry a girl from india and get her here on dependent visa (h4) before my GC approval.
4. pple who use EAD and chg jobs, is there any way in which they can get to add a spouse as a derivative 485 appln before the GC gets approved.
can you give ur opinion regd the above qns? thanks

from my understanding it wil start right away.. which means we will loose some time overlapping between the EAD's.

Even after spending tens of hours of reading, consulting with lawyers and scratching heads countless times, still the green card process is confusing to most of us on this site. Honestly, its a tedious, intricate process that demands lot of patience, hard work, luck and money.
Hey! I'm not trying to scare you but if you were born in India, its been that way for quite some time. I guess you need to do some serious reading about the entire process and especially your scenario. Just google, you'll be inundated with ocean of information. Then you may have some idea about the time frames of getting the EAD or GC or Citizenship or whatever. Good luck!

I guess you need to do some serious reading about the entire process and especially your scenario. Just google, you'll be inundated with ocean of information. Then you may have some idea about the time frames of getting the EAD or GC or Citizenship or whatever. Good luck!
