I have applied (e-filed) in Mid June--> got receipts in 3 days--> biometrics notice in 1 week after filing--> Finished Biometrics on 3rd July--> Received the cards today.

I have received my GC on January 28th. My company filled the following with USCIS:
I140 was filled on Nov. 21 2007 and Approved on Jan 24th 2008
I485 was filled on Nov. 21 2007 and Approved on Jan 20th 2008
Now... some people say to me to wait 180 days to quit my current job (which is paying me half of what I should be earning as a GC holder), some people say it is okay to leave at anytime....
So, I don't know what to do, I pretend to become a citzen in 5 years also, and not sure if this will count bad towards that.
I have some reasons to leave: sallary is low (they will not negociate more), wife is pregnant and I am getting a mortgage.
Please advice.
Interesting question. People generally leave their sponsering employer when they invoke ac21 before they get a GC, which looks fine and when they get the GC they stick to their new employer atleast for 6 months to show that the GC intent was for continuing employment.
It will be interesting to know if you can jump to another employer even after getting GC (something like AC21) showing intent to continuing employment.

Thanks for the response forgerator. But I would argue that, the problem lies in the fact that there's no obvious link between my work and college major. So if I'm able to somehow re-establish that link, it's still possible to get an H1B. I understand that most H1B visas went to people who work in IT, finance, etc. But I don't see that as an absolute impediment in terms of me getting one.
The key here is that the degree you have attained must be "required" by the job. So you need find a job that requires a degree in French.
Here is the exact language of the law from 8 CFR:
"(iii) Criteria for H-1B petitions involving a specialty occupation.
(A) Standards for specialty occupation position. To qualify as a specialty occupation, the position must meet one of the following criteria:
( 1 ) A baccalaureate or higher degree or its equivalent is normally the minimum requirement for entry into the particular position;
( 2 ) The degree requirement is common to the industry in parallel positions among similar organizations or, in the alternative, an employer may show that its particular position is so complex or unique that it can be performed only by an individual with a degree;
( 3 ) The employer normally requires a degree or its equivalent for the position; or
( 4 ) The nature of the sp ecific duties are so specialized and complex that knowledge required to perform the duties is usually associated with the attainment of a baccalaureate or higher degree.

These are minor things, although annoying, but I wouldn't worry about them. I guess it's just your GC interview. The good thing is that they are processing your case. I would suggest taking your lawyer with you. When is your interview? Just curious what is the time frame. Good luck.

If you have the ead card, the file #/card# will tell you which center was your EAD fiiled. To get an approximate date using the online case status search for the file number in the approximate range as yours. For Eg. if you card # is EAC 07 043 52343 - then the center is Vermont, Filed in Fisical year 07 ( Oct -06 - Sep 07) 043 is the 43rd working day in FY07 and 52343 is the case number.

Hi Friends - I work at a university and have been with them for 4 years. My boss plans on giving my a 10-12% mid-year pay increase. But our HR says that H1 workers are not eligible for mid-year pay hikes..?? IS THAT TRUE.?
Is there a INS rule that somebody can point me to which i can forward to my boss/HR which mentions that there is no pay increase issue with H1 visa holders..I searched on USCIS, DOL, etc..cannot find anything.
Can somebody please help!

What your HR seems to suggest it is not logical,USCIS erstwhile INS do not dicate HR polices.This seems more like your univertisty's supposed HR policy or HR peron not literate about the immgration rules and regulation. As many have suggested i have not come across any instance what you mentioned. My spouse is on h1 with a very big company and he has been getting hikes every year in acceptable ranges what was menioned in his offer letter. Some are in mid year based on performance of the tasks he carried out succesfully.

Try Wells Fargo or Chase. They have been quite good about lending me money for a couple of rental properties.
Also ask them for rebates as they are eager to get business.
Another one I came across was Penfed.org. They may work for you since you seem to be borrowing for a primary residence.

Folks,
How are the taxi charges from Chennia airport to the town or station ? Do the drivers charge whatever they feel like or is it controlled?
My parents are leaving back from the US and will be landing in Chennai, they are not from Chennai....so not sure if I should try to book a taxi before hand...or the charges are controlled ? Also, do they have something like pre-paid taxi ?
The flight (emirates) lands at 3 or 4 am.
Also, any recomendations for Hotels ? Ideally near the railway station.

Just choose a hotel and then compare the price with these three websites. In the last 2 years I Booked hotels in chennai through agoda at least 6 times and everytime the price was atleast 500 to 1000 rs cheaper than other websites. I am talking about 3 and 4 stars.
